BEL-CAT-series: New instruments for comprehensive catalyst characterization

Rubotherm

The BEL-CAT-Series offers solutions for catalyst characterization by the dynamic flow method. The application is including the determination of active sites in catalysts (metal dispersion), the performance of pulse-Chemisorption measurement and TPD, TPR and TPO / TPRX analysis (Temperature-P-desorption programmed, oxidation and -Reduction/Reaction).
The series consists of the budget-, semi-Belcat M and the two automatic devices Belcat Belcat-A and-B.
By default, seven gas lines for pretreatment and measurement are already firmly integrated into the device (Corrosive gas line available). In addition, the fully automatic equipment with three other gas lines (total max. 10) are equipped or retrofitted later. The automatic four-way valves are actively purged with helium to avoid contamination. The Belcat-A also has an evaporator and a temperature-controlled air bath (150 ° C). This may, in addition to various gases, including vapors such as water or pyridine are used for catalyst characterization.
All units have a high temperature furnace for the preparation and the temperature of the sample during the measurement in the range up to 1100 ° C. It is also possible the sample in liquid nitrogen for cooling to 77K to specific surfaces by the BET one-point method to measure in-situ.
For measurements at low temperatures, the BEL-CAT-series are equipped with a coupled cooling and heating system, enabling continuous measurements Temperature range -100 to 1000 ° C.

The measurement is made by high-resolution thermal conductivity detectors (TCD), which are characterized by excellent long-term stability and hence lower cost of recalibration. In addition, the coupling of a mass spectrometer for simultaneous gas analysis is possible.
To control the carrier gas flow and the addition of the different sample gases are several mass flow controllers and multi-task and sample valves. By featuring corrosion-resistant gas lines can virtually all gases and vapors are used for chemisorption measurements. For the pulse-adsorption is a selection of different pulse grind available, the user can be changed quickly and easily.
The evaluation and analysis software for the analysis of the measurements is up to date and allows inter alia, the implementation of the following analysis:
  • Metal dispersion
  • Peak Integration (manual and automatic)
  • Application of multiple peak distributions
  • TPD, TPO, TPR analysis
  • Chemisorption
  • Physisorption
  • BET analysis
