Thermal Field-Flow Fractionation - The innovation in the polymer nanoparticles & Analysis Molar Mass by Thermal FFF coupled with macromolecules

Postnova Analytics

The Postnova TF2000-MALS Series is a newly developed analysis system based on Thermal Field-Flow Fractionation and Multi-Angle Light Scattering. The system is ideal for the separation and characterization of polymers and particles. The separation region extends over an extremely broad molecular weight and particle size range. The separation takes place under mild conditions and without shear. The online coupled and fully integrated into the software Multi-Angle Light Scattering Detector, both the molar mass and particle size can be determined directly, without resorting to standard materials need.
The TF2000-MALS Series is technically similar to a GPC-MALS system set up, but avoiding the usual limitations of SEC / GPC technology. The common in SEC / GPC column is replaced in the TF2000-MALS system by a special separation channel, which contains no stationary phase. Separation and retention take place exclusively under the influence of a thermal separation field. Polymers and particles, such as starch, rubber and latex particles can be up to 10E9, since separated, and from 1 nm to 10 microns readily over a range of 10E4. In contrast to the GPC has the Thermal Field-Flow Fractionation no size exclusion limit, which would limit the separation region for high and ultra high molecular weight. Due to the absence of any stationary phase, there may not be undesirable adsorption effects.

Unique Benefits

  • Ultra-high resolution and extremely wide separation region
  • No shear forces and gentle separation conditions, particularly for polymers
  • Low flow rates result in a reduced solvent consumption
  • Reusable channel without consumables, no columns required
The Postnova TF2000-MALS complete system consists of a Thermal Field-Flow Fractionation separation unit and the seamlessly integrated Multi-Angle Light Scattering and refractive index detectors. The unique NovaFFF software platform manages the entire FFF-MALS-RI system, is used for data acquisition and allows the direct calculation of the molecular weight and particle size. Other detectors such as UV, Fluorescence and ELSD may also be coupled.
With the introduction of the new TF2000-MALS-series, has Postnova reached a new milestone in terms of perfecting the thermal FFF-MALS technology, thus making this technology for the first time a wide range of users from the field of polymers, materials science and nanotechnology available. The TF2000-MALS-series is an indispensable tool for every researcher and QA managers, the more complex aspects of the subject, edited and adsorbed high molecular weight polymers and gel materials. The technology offers the particular advantage of a huge separation range combined with high separation efficiency. Polymers, gels and particles can be simultaneously separated and characterized with higher resolution than is usually possible with chromatographic methods. In addition, the typical disadvantages in the use of packed columns can be avoided. These properties make the TF2000-MALS-series to a new standard in the field of polymer and particle characterization.
